DesktopServer Tip: Ensure that name of Export and active theme’s name do not match

Yesterday I wanted to export a localhost install of WordPress, http://centric-pro.dev from my old computer (MacBook Air) to the new one (MacBook Pro). I have the current latest version of DestopServer Premium, 3.6.3 running on both the laptops.

I entered “centric-pro” in the ‘Export As’ field and let DestopServer generate the zip file.

I then AirDropped the full website’s zip file on to MBP, and imported it in DesktopSever.

Upon visiting http://centric-pro.dev in the browser, I was staring at the following with a blank face:

The styles were missing and the theme was somehow broken.

After exchanging a few mails back and forth with DesktopServer’s support (who were pretty responsive), they figured out the root cause of the issue:

On the import of the archive it does what we call “Scrubbing” but a better description would be “find and replace”. There where several peices of the puzzle that caused this to happen. Your child theme had the exact same name as the “Export As” field. So when the “scrubbing” went through all the files and database it replaced centric-pro with what you named the local site .dev. This caused some links such as the style.css link to produce an incorrect path.
