About this site
SridharKatakam.com is a paid membership (primarily although there is some free content) site where members can find hundreds of step by step examples on customizing Genesis, a popular WordPress framework. Most tutorials are written. There are a few videos/screencasts as well.
Who is this site for?
The intended audience for this site is someone that already knows how to write HTML and CSS. You also have experience with making changes in Genesis or other WordPress themes.
My objective in writing the tutorials is so members can go through the code, understand it so they can ultimately be self sufficient to a degree where they can say “Yes! I can code this design into Genesis”.
To summarize, this site is not for total novices but for intermediate users. Your site can crash if you do not know what you are doing (like pasting opening PHP tag in the middle of a php file when the flow is still in PHP) and blindly follow the code in tutorials.
Setting expectations / Disclaimer
I am not a coder. I do not have a formal education in HTML/CSS/PHP/jQuery. I consider myself ‘street smart’ when it comes to solving problems like making changes in WordPress. Everything I write here is from trial and error, research and years of experience reading code written by others. Code in my tutorials need not be per best practices. My code snippets do not take care of accessibility/internationalization (yet).
Should you join this site?
If you want to learn how you can convert a design or re-do an existing site into a Genesis child theme, go through the code in existing Genesis themes first to understand how it all works. Then try to apply that knowledge and put it to practice. If you feel that you need help or want step by step real-life examples of customizing Genesis, only then, join the site.
For those just getting started, $47/month is a steep investment. Therefore become a member only if you have the time and burning desire to put the tutorials to good use and feel that you are going to get the return on your investment.
