SiteGround currently has a Easter sale going on for web hosting. I came to know about this over the weekend and signed up for the GoGeek plan. During this sale, the prices are as follows:
I was with WP Engine before this and while I have no complaints with them, it’s pricier compared to SiteGround for a single website with the volume of traffic I am getting here (~2000 visitors a day). I remember this site’s loading time to be under 2s when it was hosted on WP Engine. Now it is 3.73s.
If site speed is of utmost importance to you, I highly recommend WP Engine. Otherwise if you are a budget-conscious user, SiteGround is a fine alternative.
Coming to support, SiteGround was very quick and knowledgeable. They transferred the site for me and answered my questions on wp-config.php (what lines to keep and remove from the ones carried over from WP Engine) thoroughly.
Avoid GoDaddy, iPage, 1&1 and Yahoo! hosting. I have an account at HostGator and while I don’t have any issues with them personally, quite a few were pretty mad about their sites’ downtime (down for more than 48 hrs this last weekend).
Coming back to SiteGround, at the time of publishing this post, there is still about 13hrs left for the deal. So if you are looking for a decent host with positive reviews overall and is not too wildly expensive, go with SiteGround.
Hi, I found on your blog solutions for almost all my problems and this is the reason to visit your site daily, but with this hosting your blog is slow, very slow! Even if i run my websites on a hosting that you said to be avoided, with Metro and Minimum themes and Adsense installed on both of them no more than 3 sec. on Pingdom….
I do not experience the slowness that you mention Xara. I shall give this a month’s time and then decide accordingly.
Hey Sridhar, why do you recommend avoiding. Godaddy? I’m just curious because in the many years of using them I’ve never had a single issue. Site load time is always fast, never any downtime, super helpful and knowledgable support techs, reasonably priced, etc.
What are your experiences with them?
It’s not just for a single reason, my opinion is due to years of hearing/reading about others’ stories and also experiencing some first hand. The last time I checked, their domain registration process is like a landmine filled with bombs (upsells). The domain renewal options were purposefully hidden and made difficult to navigate. Now a days they offer cPanel but earlier their hosting panel was bad. Changes made in it took a lot of time to take effect.

I know this is old, but nevertheless take a look: http://ithemes.com/2010/03/26/ithemes-doesnt-recommend-godaddy-hosting-heres-why/
Oh wow, I’m so glad I never had those experiences with them.
Haha, I misspelled my own last name in the earlier comment. I guess I shouldn’t try to type on my phone with my fat fingers.
Thanks for everything, I’m a big fan!
Hi,
I’m with Siteground for some months and I’m very happy with them until now. The support is indeed great (chat option).
I had bad experiences with Godaddy before, like Sridhar said, hosting panel before is so bad , hardly to navigate. They tried to upsell with many products to you.
BTW, how can you make your site loading so fast? Do you use genesis framework?
I used the genesis framework for all my clients’ sites. Loading time is never lower than 5sec.
Please helps
Thanks
Hi Sridhar
How has been your experience with SiteGround so far ? Its been 3 months since you moved, would you still recommend it ?
