Is there a tutorial for creating the orange flyout search box anywhere on this blog?
Not yet. I will publish that today.
Done.

I’m unsure if it’s just me – but how is this parallax?
The scrolling is all the same. Parallax scrolling is when two sections/items etc are moving at different speeds?
From what I see around on the internet, there are 3 definitions of Parallax:
1) Background image remains fixed. See http://www.script-tutorials.com/parallax-scrolling-tutorial/ for an example of this.
2) Position of background image changes as the visitor scrolls. That’s the one in this article.
3) A parallax effect that you are referring to that can be easily perceived by multiple objects moving at different speeds on scroll. Ex.: See “Parallax Elements” section of http://sridharkatakam.com/parallax-animations-genesis-using-stellar-js/.
Which according to you is Parallax? Can you give example of a site that implements it the right way?
Sorry I didn’t see this reply!
To me, parallax scrolling is when two elements are scrolling at different speeds (or, one is scrolling and the other isn’t at all) giving the illusion of two planes/panels.
I’d probably just call this “really cool full width image sections” ๐
I do love this though!
When you say
“2) Position of background image changes as the visitor scrolls. Thatโs the one in this article.”
I can’t see the position changing? What does that refer to?
Hi Sridhar,
Do you know if this will work here, where there is already a position: absolute on the site header in order to place it on top of the background image:

Thanks!
