Sridhar, thanks for this, by any chance could you include the css for both the home top left and home top right classes
The needed column classes CSS is already present in Executive Pro’s style.css.
http://demo.studiopress.com/executive/wp-content/themes/executive-pro/style.css
Do a Find for “Column Classes”.
I have followed the instructions to do the same for the middle section, coming up with
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘class’ (T_CLASS), expecting ‘)’ in C:\wamp\www\wp-content\themes\executive-pro\front-page.php on line 46
would this work for the middle section or do i need to alter it in some way?
Thanks,
Paul
It worked… Just had to change a couple things. Thanks!
Hi Sridhar~
Thank you for this — your code snippets are always so helpful!
I tried to tweak this for replacing the slider area on the home page, rather than replacing the home-top, and keeping the left widget as a slider. (not sure if there might have been a better option?)
Instead of top-left and top-right, I replaced slider with welcome-left and welcome-right. The thing is that the welcome-right widget is not showing up, even though it’s registered (there is a spot for it on the widgets page). So. I’m wondering if there might be more to the code that I would need to change, other than this, or if I’ve just complicated things?
Thanks Sridhar.
It worked up to a point and I have to figure out some sizes for a video and a call to action box.
But the site is now not responsive Is there a way to overcome that?
Sridhar, further to my comment above, it seems the video is the culprit. It doesn’t re-size and that throws out the responsiveness of the whole page. Solution?
Can you provide the URL of your site?
Thanks Sridhar. It’s http://getthesocialedge.com
I have found a partial solution, with some code to make the video responsive. Now the video does not throw the rest of the site out of responsive balance, but when it comes up on my Android phone, it is showing only half the static image. Once I hit the play button it is ok.
The code for the video was from this post: http://neatandplain.com/responsive-youtube-or-vimeo-videos-in-genesis/
I should have checked first. Testing the site on http://mattkersley.com/responsive/ it comes up fine in all formats now. Also on a later version than mine of the Samsung Galaxy phone. So it looks like it’s just my old phone is the culprit and the problem is solved.
Once again, thanks for all the help you give.
HI
Love your posts, I learn so much from them.
I worked based on your post & resgistered 3 widgets in the home-top area, everything worked great except some of the contebt doesn’t display on the IE browser
url: http://colaw19.mobileisrael.net
could it be because I switched direction of site to RTL in ordr to support my language (Hebrew)?
you and your tutorials are Really help full sir for me!!! Thank you to have such a great mentor !!!
I’m trying to do the same thing on the Enterprise Pro theme. I made the changes to all three files and changed “executive” to “enterprise” in functions.php but I got a blank screen. Are there other changes I need to make?
Hi, thanks for your tutorial. Your website is always very helpful.
I’m wondering if there is a way to add these two new widget only in the home page before the “home top” without replacing the existent home top. I would like to use both, the new widgets and the existent home top widget.
I really hope you can give me some tips.
Many many thanks
