I tried this on the Responsive free theme though the CSS class function (right) doesn’t work. Any ideas?
The “right” class is specific to the theme Sridhar was using as an example. However, you can make the icons move to the right in any theme by adding CSS. The second video on the plugin description page, “Changing Icon Appearance” will walk you through it in a few minutes. See https://wordpress.org/plugins/menu-social-icons/
That code, added to your theme’s functions.php, will show the text next to the icons. For more detailed styling hints, watch the second video on the readme page, “Editing CSS for Menu Social Icons”

How would I add text to the right of each icon here? I want the icons displayed in a vertical row with the platform name to the right of each icon.

Menu Social Icons uses the full Font Awesome library. To add a new icon, see the heading “Option: Add More Icons” in the plugin readme.
How would I fix the unwanted gap below the menus in the genesis child theme?
